    。。。算少也。。。少。。。無算乎。。。此觀

    Shiyijia zhu Text

    夫未戰而廟算勝者得算多也未戰而廟算不勝者得算少也 多算勝少算不勝而況於無算乎吾以此觀之勝負見矣

    Translation

Now, in the rod-counting at court before battle, one is victorious who gets many counting rods. In the rod-counting at court before battle, one is not victorious who gets few counting rods. Many counting rods is victorious over few counting rods, how much more so over no counting rods. By these means I observe them. Victory and defeat are apparent.

    Annotations

The Shiyijia zhu texts say "Many counting rods are victorious; few counting rods are not victorious." The Shuchao text has "Many counting rods are victorious over few counting rods" (juan 113). Although the Yinqueshan text is fragmentary here, there is room on the missing piece for the Shuchao text but not the Shiyijia zhu text. We have therefore followed the former.
