The 1895 Sledge Voyage- The Cache: Another Try

The team could not locate the original cache they intended to use during the expedition. This proved problematic as the cache, a type of storage place, held valuable supplies the team would need during the journey. While Peary and his men were able to continue, the addition of the supplies from the lost cache might have prevented the team's later battle with hunger.

“On the second day’s march, when we arrived in the vicinity of the cache igloos, I made another most determined effort to recover the [lost] cache… Nooktah stood and waved something about his head, then came galloping back, and handed me a piece of an old bag which had been tied to the tip of the pole marking the position of the cache… this cache, though not a large as the [lost] one… was still very acceptable.” -Robert E. Peary in Northward over the “Great Ice”, published in 1898
