Yinqueshan Text
故策之而知 動。。。死生之地計之而知得失之
Shiyijia zhu Text
故策之而知得失之計候之而知動靜之理形之襋知死生之地角之
而知有余不足之處
Translation
And so prick them and know the pattern of their movement and stillness. Form them and know the ground of death and life. Appraise them and know the plans for gain and loss. Probe them and know the places of surplus and insufficiency.
Annotations
The Yinqueshan text is fragmentary for this section, and it presents these four dicta in different order and combination than the received texts. The medieval witnesses also do not wholly agree with either the Yinqueshan or received texts. We are not entirely confident of our reconstruction but have reassembled the materials in the best order we can.
