      The Solid and Empty

    Annotations

The Yinqueshan materials for chapter 6 are among the most complete of all chapters. Thus it is especially easy to find instances where the received text traditions have ÒimprovedÓ the diction of the original, adding particles such as zhe ªÌ, yu ©ó, ze «h and gu ¬G to clarify grammatical relationships.

The title itself provides a good example of this. The table-of-contents board clearly has shi, "solid," in the first position. All later texts have inverted this to the more idiomatic xushi.
