The machine won’t stop

As we discussed yesterday, the machine stops was a scarily accurate portrayal of a possible future for our society The dependance that humans showed for the machine during the short story was disturbing, but made me think about the direction are civilization. With each new gadget the world gets increasingly excited, the iPad being a perfect example of this. The question in my mind is shifting from what will the next technology be to when will technology reach a stand still. When will we be unable to create more advanced electronic equipment. It seems to me that our technological advances are gaining momentum. Nobody would have thought ten years ago that we would have devices like iPods associated with college level courses. Right now it doesn’t look like the machine will ever stop. Our information society is becoming more and more advanced, and it can’t be long until Forster’s vision becomes true. When will in person interactions be rendered obsolete by the machine?
