Welcome
The Bowdoin Buoy Facility allows continuous monitoring of Harpswell Sound, a water body with significant economic resources (fisheries, tourism), a rapid development of surrounding watershed, potentially problematic circulation characteristics, and recurrent annual harmful algal blooms. It functions as an element of the GoMOOS network, and is currently the center of research aimed at determining the origin and predicting the onset of dangerous algae conditions. The buoy is moored at 43.7616 N, 69.988 W, and contains instrumentation to monitor temperatures, wind speed, current speed and direction, chlorpohyll levels, and water clarity.
