Final Presentation

At the last meeting, we were able to discuss and finalize any remaining ideas/concerns regarding our proposal to implement a plaza and mosaic light fixtures in Davis Park and the surrounding area. With the two boards that have been given to us, we plan to include a 3-D representation of our mosaic light fixtures. Since the light fixtures are a key element of our presentation, they will be made from clay material and will hang directly off of the board. These light fixtures will allow viewers to gain a sense of the texture and color that will add to Davis Park and the surrounding area. The board will also include a before picture/map of Davis Park and an after drawing of Davis Park. This after drawing will include sketches of our plaza and the mosaic light fixtures.

Plaza Entrance and Mosaic Light Fixtures

At last weeks meeting, our group unfortunately discovered that our plans for the building of a bridge over the train tracks into the park were simply not feasible. After discussing and trying to develop other ideas, we came up with a new idea of building a plaza-type entrance into Davis Park. The plaza itself will be constructed out of either a brick or cobblestone material. Within the brick or cobblestone, we are planning to implement an area for donor bricks. It is our hope that these donor bricks will allow for the neighborhood to get involved with the Davis Park Project. With benches and an open area, the plaza will be an outlet for individuals to hang around and relax. Children will also be able to use these benches while they are sitting waiting for the bus.

Bridge into Davis Park

Although we are still in the beginning stages of our plan for Davis Park, we have chosen to focus on developing a bridge that will be built over the train tracks and lead directly into the park. The idea is that the bridge will add character to the surrounding neighborhood as well as providing easier access into the park . The bridge itself will be constructed using either stone or brick materials. Within the bridge, we would like to incorporate a number of light fixtures built into the bridge that will be used as a way to outline the bridge.

Reactions to Curtis Memorial Library Meeting

Overall, we found that meeting with neighborhood residents and town officials was very helpful in allowing us to formulate ideas about what the park needs/what neighborhood residents would like to see happen to the park. Here are a number of our reactions to the meeting itself, as well as some ideas that we have come up with:
