'Point of View' Culmination

The Llamas are excited with how our project has developed and with how we have presented our idea. Last night we hung our poster at Little Dog, and the other poster will be hung up at Curtis Library soon. We're looking forward to hearing the community's 'point of view' on our proposal.

The Final Week

The final week of the Davis Park project is upon us...

Sunday night our group got together to create our proposal boards. Dan and Sam worked on SketchUp to finalize renderings of the pieces and to created a site model using SketchUp. We highlighted areas of the park to show where we would place our different pieces. Also, we printed google sattlite images of the Park and noted where the pieces would go on those images.

The Final Week

Hello readers,

As we near our deadline, when we will hang our proposal posters for the public to view, we are narrowing down our ideas and tailoring them to poster format.

We have settled on a scavenger hunt whose stages and clues will be posted (presumably on telephone poles) creating a walk loop around the Northwest neighborhood. Per Professor Mark Wethli's suggestions, we are designing each sign/stage to include:
-Information on the site where you are (ie. a brief history or anecdote) to connect people to events and other people who have passed before them
-A clue photo; we think these will be zoomed in photos of unique features of the upcoming stop on the hunt.
-A written clue to accompany the photo and further clarify the upcoming stop location.

Meeting Update - February 20, 2007

On Tuesday our group met in the photo studio and further discussed our project. Each member of the group continued to work on his or her assigned task and we brought in works in progress to share with each other and to try to work out any current problems. The map and paw print background of our poster by Annie is really coming along and looks great. The SketchUp rendering of the fountain also is coming along nicely. Evan did further research looking into average rainfall in Brunswick annually and calculated the estimated size of the fountain in comparison to rainfall and an estimatimation of how many dogs would visit the park daily. The color theme is being kept consistent as fun, lively, and eye-catching.

After we each spent time last week collecting images of certain parts of our plan, we used our time at the Tuesday night meeting to gather the images, resize them, print, and cut them out. We also began creating titles and descriptions that we will paste onto our board. Our group decided that the board will highlight before (what the park looks like now) and after (what it will look like once our plans have been put into actions). Our next team meeting is on Sunday when we will finish typing up descriptions and paste everything onto our boards. We will also punch holes in one of the boards and attach a pad of paper and a pen.

More Details

Yesterday, February 20th, we worked out more details for our idea of a sledding competition in the winter and movie nights during the summer. We are going to have a voting system on our presentation board that will allow townspeople to vote for what movie they would like to see. The four initial options are going to be Breaking Away, October Sky, Big Fish, and Forrest Gump. We are going to design the screen that the movies will be shown on but do not have a final product. The screen will also be able to be used in the winter to display times and rankings for the sledding races. We will begin putting together our board this weekend. The main feature of the board is going to be two large images of the park during the winter and summer as it will look while our events are taking place.

Final Presentation

At the last meeting, we were able to discuss and finalize any remaining ideas/concerns regarding our proposal to implement a plaza and mosaic light fixtures in Davis Park and the surrounding area. With the two boards that have been given to us, we plan to include a 3-D representation of our mosaic light fixtures. Since the light fixtures are a key element of our presentation, they will be made from clay material and will hang directly off of the board. These light fixtures will allow viewers to gain a sense of the texture and color that will add to Davis Park and the surrounding area. The board will also include a before picture/map of Davis Park and an after drawing of Davis Park. This after drawing will include sketches of our plaza and the mosaic light fixtures.

Tuesday 2/20 Meeting Recap

Microphone

This past week we had a great meeting. First, we settled on the number and location of all our transmitting and receiving "walkie-talkie" stations. Second, we also moved along our ideas regarding the appearance of these devices. Third, we worked out our board layout, and thought about how best to represent our audio-based project visually.

Some of our ideas:
- Incorporate sound into the board, such that people can play the sounds of the park
- Incorporate actual walkie-talkies into the 2 boards, so that people can communicate between boards

Next steps:
- We plan to meet next on Saturday to put together our board
- We will try to hunt down two tape players so that our boards can play sounds
