Prospective Members

The Peucinian Society welcomes new members at the beginning of the Fall and Spring Semesters. Unless there is a removal or resignation, current Society members remain members for the duration of their Bowdoin education. The Society is inclusive and open inasmuch as it accepts students regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, political persuasion, or religion. Peucinians value intellectual diversity above all.

Students interested in joining the Society for the 2009-10 school year should attend an information session in the Peucinian Room in Sills Hall, on Thursday September 10th at 6 p.m. This session will be followed by a Disputation at 7 p.m. which will afford prospective members a taste of the Peucinian experience.

All students who plan on joining the Society should prepare a 5-10 minute response to the question, "What is the peak of human virtue?" (Past members have argued for fortitude, humorousness, brevity, open-mindedness, courage, philosophy, etc.)

Following these speeches before the Declamation Committee, prospective members are formally welcomed into the Society. Declamations will be heard on September 24th.
