Comparison with Old Stage Road
This graph compares the depth at Hedge Bridge Road, the site where we gathered the majority of our data, and Old Stage Road, which is farther downstream and directly above Nequasset Lake. Old Stage Road's proximity to the lake offers an explanation for the different depth patterns of the two locations. Old Stage Road's depth increase occured later because the stormwater not only took time to travel downstream, but also because raising the depth at Old Stage Road requires raising the depth of the entire lake. Raising the depth at Hedge Bridge Road, on the other hand, merely requires enough water to raise the depth of the narrow stream. In addition, because more water was required at Old Stage Road for each increased inch of depth, the change in depth of Old Stage Road during the storm event was less than Hedge Bridge Road. Finally, the longer recovery time for Old Stage Road is most likely the effect of the dam on the other side of Nequasset Lake. Whereas stormwater could quickly flow through Hedge Bridge Road, much of it was trapped for days at Old Stage Road. |
